About Logan
Logan is a local government area in the South Brisbane region of South East Queensland, Australia. In June 2018, the city covered an area of 1,217.2 square kilometres (471.5 sq mi) and had an estimated population of 284,991. Logan was originally part of the larger Shire of Albert, which incorporated the central and southern elements of Brisbane’s Albert River catchment from 1879. The shire’s area was approximately 1,090 km2 (420 sq mi), with Beenleigh as the administrative centre.
In 1978, the Local Government (Albert) Act 1976 was enacted, which resulted in the Shire of Albert being divided into three separate entities: the City of Beenleigh, the Shire of Alberton, and the new Shire of Logan.
