The Most Affordable Times To Move Home

Moving home is very expensive, with many one-off costs continuing to pile on top of each other. It can add many sleepless nights to the already stressful process of moving home.

Luckily, different times of the year, month, and week are more affordable than peak times to move as there is not as much of a demand for removalists. Let’s take a look at the most affordable times to move home.

Winter

With the lack of public holidays, freezing weather, shorter days, and rain, Winter is the least popular time of year for people to move home. It’s also when kids are in the middle of their studies and settled into a routine.

But, if you are looking to save money, Winter offers the most affordable moving rates at any time of the year. It can end up helping you save a lot of money if you don’t mind moving in the cold, and potentially wet.

Spring

If the idea of moving during Winter makes you shudder. Then early spring is the next best time. The weather is nicer, and the sun is shining. October and November generally have less of a demand for moving. They are between the September school holidays and the Christmas period. You can find affordable rates by moving during this time, although they will be higher than in Winter.

Peak Moving Time

December is peak moving time. Kids are finishing school, work is winding down, and most people want to spend Christmas, New Years and their end of year holidays in their new home. But it can also lead to problems if booking last minute. Due to huge demand, there may not be many removalists available, or the ones who are will charge a premium.

Now, let’s look at the most affordable day and week of the month to move.

Make sure to avoid moving around public holidays during any time of the year, as they will be significantly more expensive due to demand.

Most Affordable Day To Move Home

Moving is most common on the weekends for the majority of people, particularly for a local move. Instead of having to take time off work, people use the entire weekend to complete their move and settle into their new home. While this is the most convenient time, it is also the most expensive due to demand.

The next most popular days people move is either on a Friday or Monday. By taking one day off work, either as an RDO or personal leave, they then have a three day weekend to complete movie to their new home.

For the most affordable time of the week to move home, consider scheduling your move between Tuesday to Thursday.

People generally move either at the end or the start of a month. It’s strongly recommended to move in the middle of the month and the middle of the week. This is when demand is lowest, and rates are often more affordable.

Moving in the middle of the week gives you the following upcoming weekend to dedicate to getting your new home fully unpacked and organised.

Best Time of Day to move

Early in the morning is the best time to move, between approximately 7 am to 10 am. Not only does it allow the removalists to avoid peak hour traffic, but it also means the weather conditions are cooler during the warmer months. Moving in the morning is also when you have more energy, and it then allows you more time in the afternoon to unpack, and get organised.

No-one likes the thought of moving house, especially on a hot, humid, energy sapping Queensland day. Enter the Optimove team. Motasem rang at 6.30am to tell us he was ahead of schedule .. from there, it was plain sailing! He and Isiah and Matheos hit the ground running – literally. They took care with our furniture, they were professional, polite and funny and nothing was too much trouble. I can certainly recommend Motasem and his team.
